Create Your First Coat

Sign Up for Create Your First Coat pre-sale, the essential course for learning coat tailoring techniques to make your first coat.

Ready to make your first coat, but no idea where to start?

Overwhelmed by the different fabric, interfacing, and lining choices?
Not sure what techniques will give you the most professional results?

I felt the same way when I made my first coat a few years ago - it was challenging trying to find the information I needed on how to sew a coat when so much of what's out there focuses on how to tailor suit jackets. Tailoring books and resources focus on getting a suit jacket to fit and often discuss techniques for men's tailoring, which doesn't always apply to what's necessary for constructing a woman's coat.

This is a 4-week course designed to give you the knowledge you need to successfully make your first coat, from picking out coating fabrics, selecting the type of interfacing methods to use, and how to make your coat warm for the winter.

I built this course to not only help you make your very first coat, but to also give you a one-stop destination for everything that you'll need to know to make a tailored coat, with all of the extra crap weeded out.

When you sign up for Create Your First Coat, you'll get:

  • Four modules broken down into mini video lessons that cover coat tailoring fundamentals, such as: tools you need for tailoring, understanding the different types of coating fabrics and linings, and how to determine what kind of interfacing applications to use - everything you need to successfully make your first coat
  • A guide on how to select fabric that will work for your pattern
  • Cheatsheet of online retailers to source your materials from - it doesn't matter that you don't have a fabric store near where you live!
  • Ideas on how to customize your coat, such as changing pockets and different types of closures to use

End your frustration of trying to find the right information out there on what type of interlining you should use to make your coat warm and how to correctly apply interfacing to your coat to get the right shaping and support - Create Your First Coat is the solution to all of your introductory coat-making needs.

I like to make things with needle and thread and show the world how easy it is to create a handmade wardrobe – without it looking like it’s “home-made.”

I’ve been sewing since I was 9, and my first foray into fashion design was cutting up old socks and stitching them into outfits for my Beanie Babies. Now, over 20 years later, I’m making a conscious effort to sew just about everything I wear in my closet, including the dress for my upcoming wedding in 2016. I’m passionate about sharing my sewing and blogging knowledge with other sewists.
